When is an Occasional Liquor Licence Required?

You need an occasional permit when the premises on which you plan to host the event is not licenced with the correct liquor licence:

You need this permit for:

  • Weddings, private parties, or corporate functions

  • Music festivals, concerts, expos, or markets

  • Sporting events, fundraisers, or pop-up events

  • Any event where liquor will be sold or included in the entry fee

How Long Does It Take?

  • Most provinces require applications to be submitted at least 15–21 days before the event.

  • It however differs from province to province.

  • In Gauteng, the Liquor Board often has a strict 15-day minimum lead time.
